Common questions
What is a chassis mount canopy, or service body?
An integrated storage body that bolts directly to the ute's chassis, with a built-in base tray rather than a separate tray underneath. That single-structure design gives more usable internal volume than a tray-plus-canopy build of the same length, and a cleaner, more unified look.
How is it different from a tray and canopy?
A tray-and-canopy build is two parts: an aluminium tray bolted to the chassis, and a canopy bolted to the tray. A service body combines both into one structure. The trade-off is modularity — a canopy with a jack-off system can be lifted off to give you a flat tray back, while a service body is permanent.
Does a service body need engineering approval?
A chassis-mount body is a more involved conversion than fitting a canopy to a compliant tray, and the finished vehicle must still meet mass limits, lighting, rear marking and load restraint requirements. Talk to us and to your state roads authority before committing, particularly if a GVM upgrade is also in scope.
How much does a service body weigh?
Aluminium construction keeps it lighter than a steel equivalent, but any full body is significant mass sitting behind the cab. A tray-and-canopy build commonly adds 300–450 kg; budget in the same range and weigh the finished vehicle at a public weighbridge rather than working from brochure figures.
Can the internal layout be customised?
Yes. The elevated false floor and rail system is designed for customisable internal layouts — shelving, drawers, slides and a 12V fit-out all mount to the rail rather than being drilled into the body. Send your requirements through Custom Build.
Is a service body suitable for a fleet?
