Tips to correctly measure aluminium checker plate

Why is measuring aluminium checker plates important?

The quality of your toolbox is vital, particularly if you’re regularly on your ute and you need room for all your tools. You would also need to account for any custom additions like a Gullwing toolbox or a part-tray canopy. This would depend on your requirements for the tools.

Whether you have an under tray toolbox or a campers toolbox, your aluminium toolbox, canopy or other related tools and accessories need to be of high standard. One of the most effective ways to go about it is to measure the aluminium checker plate.

Measuring the thickness of the aluminium checker plate

When it comes to correctly measuring aluminium checker plates there are few important things to consider. Here’s a list of things to look for when measuring aluminium checker plates.

When you’re specifying the thickness of the material, the measurement should ideally be taken from the flat area of the sheet instead of the raised checker pattern. Manufacturers usually leave room for a small amount of tolerance in the sheet thickness. For instance, a 2.55mm sheet you would probably get readings around 2.35-2.5mm.

When measuring, you should first use a micrometer in order to measure the base plate of your checker plate.

Measure different parts of the checker plate several times

Calculate the average. This gives you the thickness of the tread plate.

While making the measurements there are a couple of things to note,

  • Don’t take the patterns into account when taking measurements
  • Don’t count the screw width when measuring the diameter of a deformed steel bar
